SERGEANT STEEL’s new album “Riders of the Worm” evokes well treasured memories of the 1980ies and early 1990ies, when I was into the Rock and Hard Rock of AEROSMITH and RATT.
I can also hear the influence of BON JOVI, and you can tell that the band must have listened a lot to the late QUEEN. „Riders of the Worm“ is SERGEANT STEEL’s third album, and boasts epic moments (“Where My Heart Is”), awesome guitar solos on tracks such as “Happy Time” and “Only Good Girls”, as well as a wonderful ballad (“Promised Land”). SERGEANT STELL show how well they feel at home in different genres and rhythms. Phil Vanderkill's performance reaches new levels, and is perfectly supported by Jack Power and Nodine Fambach’s stunning crystal clear guitar tracks. I also love the very distinguishable bass played by Ronny Rox, and Ben Bateman’s keyboard parts.
The new album of the Austrian Hard Rock Band from Leonding, Upper Austria, has once again been produced by Michael Wagener (METALLICA, OZZY OSBOURNE, SKID ROW), and features a straight into your face sound. Besides that, “Silver Spoon” features Kane Roberts (ALICE COOPER), and “Young and Hungry” has been recorded with Mark Slaughter (SLAUGHTER, VINNIE VINCENT).
SERGEANT STEEL’s music is great for shows, great for parties, and for being on the road. Since I got a preview copy of the new album for a review, „Riders of the Worm“ has been almost exclusively been played on my car’s CD drive while driving. I cannot help but smile when listening to the album, especially after having seen recently published videos, which made me laugh out loud - in the best possible sense, of course! One just has to listen to tracks like “Dirty Habbits” to know that these guys simply play great music and have fun and enjoy what they are doing!
I have seen SERGEANT STEEL several times live on stage, and every time it was sheer pleasure and fun. What is also important to me ist that each time I see them on stage they sound great and as if listening to the CD. Next time you see them live, expect no less – good rock music, and a great live show!
