Column: DARIO CHIAZZOLINO transcribes JOE PASS "Night & Day"

Hello Guitarmania followers and guitar fans! This is Dario Chiazzolino, guitarist and composer originally from Italy, based in New York City. I have performed and recorded with artists such as Dave Liebman, Aaron Goldberg, Billy Cobham, and Russel Ferrante - to name a few. In this article I wrote for GuitarMania, I wanted to share a transcription of a solo by JOE PASS with you. It is a solo of Pass's rendition of “Night and Day”.

First of all, please let me just introduce myself in a few words. I was born and raised in Turin, Italy and began playing the guitar at the age of twelve. I quickly realized that music was my passion and that the pursuit of excellence on my instrument would consume me for the years to come.

As a performer, I have had the opportunity to play at some of the most important Jazz Venues around the world, with great artists and icons such as Billy Cobham, Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez, Bob Mintzer, Russel Ferrante, William Kennedy, Yellow Jackets, Andy Sheppard, Dominique Di Piazza, Jimmy Haslip, Felix Pastorius, Julio Barreto, Antonio Faraò, Dave Liebman and many others.

I recorded more than 20 albums, both as a leader and side man and very soon I'll record my new record.

I have also been working as endorser with different brands for almost ten years. Currently I collaborate with D'Angelico Guitars, DV Mark Amplifiers, Kinmann Pick Ups, Keeley Electronics, Slinger Straps, Essetipicks, D'Angelico Strings and Hosa Technology.

I thought the best way to start my first contribution is to share with you a transcription of a master solo by the great JOE PASS.

He's been a great influence to me, and I personally think that any guitarist, no matter what the style is, should listen to him and steal some of his genius ideas. This solo is basically the perfect representation of how to play inside the harmony, following every single chord passage.

Enjoy this transcription! I'll be back with the next article soon.
